Stitch's Pink Girlfriend "Angel" Goes Live-Action: D23 Reveals Look and 2028 Release Date

Disney officially revealed the first details of the live-action "Lilo & Stitch 2" at D23, confirming that Experiment 624, this pink alien creature, will be joining the live-action universe. The studio also released her first official look, keeping the two most iconic traits from the animated version intact: the pink coloring and those signature long antennae.

Maia Kealoha, who plays live-action Lilo, took the stage to make the introduction, with Stitch waving to the crowd before Angel's reveal was officially unveiled. For fans familiar with the animated series, this character is far more than just "Stitch's girlfriend." She was also created by Dr. Jumba, originally designed with the power to turn reformed experiments back to their evil selves through her singing. She was once one of Stitch's toughest rivals, only gradually turning good as the story progressed—eventually developing into one of the most beloved romance arcs in the entire franchise.

Even bigger news than the character reveal: original Stitch voice actor Chris Sanders is officially returning. He's not just the voice behind Stitch—he co-wrote and co-directed the 2002 animated "Lilo & Stitch" and was one of the character's original creators. This time, he's taking over as director of "Lilo & Stitch 2," essentially bringing the character's creative roots directly back into the sequel. Dean Fleischer Camp, director of the first live-action film, previously said he'd only want to do a sequel if there was "the right story" to tell, rather than simply responding to market demand. Looking back at that comment now, alongside Angel's official reveal, it's clear the team is being careful about which characters they bring to life.

"Lilo & Stitch 2" is scheduled to hit theaters May 28, 2028. Details on the rest of the cast and character designs have yet to be announced.
