Niki the Unicorn and NYK Find Belonging in Home is a Heart
Released October 13, their jointly written country duet leads towards Niki’s planned seventh album. Explore the separate-to-shared vocal structure and NYK’s new name, Yún.
Taiwanese songwriter Niki the Unicorn has teamed up with Malaysian musician NYK for the first time on Home is a Heart. Built on country music, the duet opens the door to her planned seventh original album, due towards year-end: after leaving familiar places, what does it mean to find belonging?
An October 13 release precedes the album campaign
Both Niki’s official StreetVoice page and Apple Music date the song to October 13. MTV’s October 21 coverage and Blow’s October 22 report add the collaboration’s background and year-end plans. The single is already available, while the album remains forthcoming. LINE MUSIC credits both performers as lyricists and composers, documenting shared writing as well as a guest vocal appearance.
The English title shifts home from a physical space towards a feeling. In the release introduction, Niki describes how travelling through different countries can bring more experiences while renewing the question of where one belongs. NYK was touring internationally frequently during the writing process and connected with that question. Their shared point is less a particular city as an ideal destination than the person able to support another at the centre of belonging.
Separate passages lead towards voices meeting
According to the release introduction, the arrangement deliberately begins with the singers in separate passages, before harmonies meet in the interlude and gradually become dialogue and a duet. People in different places and time zones become a relationship change that can be traced through the song. The narrative thus advances through form as well as words: speaking separately and singing together carry different roles.
Country supplies the shared musical foundation and will continue into Niki’s next album. The introduction says the year-end project will return to a more stripped-back, country-inflected style and include several collaborations with overseas singers. A complete guest list, sequence and precise date have not been announced. This lead single establishes how two named writers approach a common question, while the sound of the full album remains to be revealed.
Niki’s seventh-album plan and NYK’s new name, Yún
Their individual plans are worth following separately. Niki places wandering and belonging at the centre of her album; NYK says he is preparing his own album under the new artist name Yún. Current platform listings for this single still use Niki the Unicorn and NYK. Keeping those original collaboration credits in a search helps identify the correct recording; Yún is the name to watch for his subsequent news.
The publicity imagery also places the two alongside each other: a composite separates their indoor portraits into left and right panels, Niki’s individual portrait uses white cowboy boots to echo country imagery, and NYK sits on a wooden stool under blue-toned light. These are promotional photographs, rather than tour documentation. Start with Home is a Heart (ft. NYK) on the official StreetVoice page, or search the formal song title on streaming services. Distinguishing the released single from the album still awaiting further year-end details gives a clearer picture of the collaboration’s progress.
