Samsung's First Open-Ear Buds, the Galaxy Buds On, Launch in Korea First — Global Release Still TBA

Samsung is jumping on the open-ear earbud bandwagon alongside Bose, Huawei, and Shokz with its first Galaxy Buds On, launching in South Korea on October 27 for 299,000 won (about $220). It comes in black only for now, with no word yet on global pricing or availability.

Samsung's First Open-Ear Buds, the Galaxy Buds On, Launch in Korea First — Global Release Still TBA

Open-ear, clip-on earbud designs have already had their moment with Bose, Huawei, and Shokz over the past few years, and now Samsung is finally catching up with its first Galaxy Buds On, which debuted in its home market of South Korea on October 1.

This style of earbud, which clips onto the outer ear instead of going into the ear canal, has the advantage of not feeling intrusive — but the tradeoff is obvious: sound leakage. Samsung's answer is a TwinBoost dual-speaker system, which the company says boosts bass performance, paired with a feature that automatically adjusts volume based on your surroundings, aiming to shore up the inherent soundstage weaknesses of open-ear designs.

To keep the buds secure without pinching your ears, Samsung widened the contact surface so pressure spreads out across the whole clip area, while touch controls are placed on the back of each earbud. Voice recognition during calls is also a key feature this time around, which Samsung says is meant to improve call clarity.

Pair them with a compatible Galaxy device, and users unlock a few extra tricks: controlling calls with head gestures like nodding, Gemini Live support, and a Quick Voice Memo feature that kicks in with a long press on the touch area. These ecosystem-locked features make it pretty clear the earbuds are mainly aimed at existing Galaxy users.

On the design front, 9to5Google points out that the Buds On's charging case looks nearly identical to the Galaxy Buds 4's case, carrying over the visual language of Samsung's existing earbud lineup.

The Galaxy Buds On will go on sale in South Korea on October 27, available for now only in black, priced at 299,000 won — roughly $220. Samsung says a global version is coming, but has yet to announce any regions, dates, or pricing details.
