The IER-M500 is a universal in-ear monitor co-developed by Sony and monitoring engineers, built with a clear audience in mind: musicians, performers, monitoring engineers, and fans who get deep into rehearsals and live shows. Unlike your everyday commuter earbuds, this thing has to handle the chaos of instruments, PA systems, and ambient noise all colliding onstage — and the wearer still needs to zero in on exactly what they need to hear, whether that's vocals, cue signals, or drum hits.
To make that happen, the IER-M500 uses a fully sealed structure with a large acoustic chamber, first cutting external noise via passive isolation. It keeps a dynamic driver setup, with acoustic tuning boosted for high-frequency resolution so different instruments and vocals stay clearly separated in the mix. On the spec sheet, it supports Hi-Res Audio with a frequency response spanning 10Hz to 40,000Hz. Sony points out that with isolation this solid, users don't need to keep cranking the monitor volume just to drown out ambient noise — a real difference for ears logging long rehearsal hours.
Another classic stage-monitor headache: staying put. The IER-M500 uses Sony's own fit-support structure, bundled with 4 sizes of high-isolation ear tips and 5 sizes of soft ear hooks. The tips are made from thin polyurethane, balancing noise isolation with comfort for extended wear. The earpieces weigh about 6.9g each (cable excluded), paired with a detachable cable roughly 1.6 meters long. Sony's also tuned the build for durability and stable connections given the heat, sweat, and constant movement that come standard on any stage.
Beyond the red/blue colorway, the IER-M500 also comes in black and clear options, priced at NT$3,490.
