ThruDark and Musto bring two specialist backgrounds into the Nautikos offshore sailing collection. ThruDark was established by founders with British Special Forces experience, while Musto has a long involvement in sailing clothing. A Nautikos GORE-TEX jacket and bib trousers anchor the range, adding Dyneema reinforcement and detachable pockets. The official jacket price is GBP1,500, with shipping expected from October 28. The late-October announcement should not be treated as immediate delivery across every size.

GORE-TEX PRO and Dyneema address different demands
The jacket builds on Musto’s MPX offshore platform, combining a GORE-TEX PRO membrane with Dyneema reinforcement. The former addresses weather protection and breathability, while the latter is placed where repeated abrasion is more likely. The brands describe this as Musto’s first collection using Dyneema. The material partnership becomes specific through placement rather than a row of technical trademarks.
Musto describes reinforcement across high-wear zones of the jacket and trousers, including seat, elbows, knees and lower edges, reflecting deck work involving kneeling, ropes and equipment. Large black surfaces make these divisions visible more through seams, thickness and finish than bright colour blocking. These purposes come from the brand’s design context, rather than an offshore test conducted here.

Detachable pockets, a high collar and cuffs respond to movement on water
Modular chest pockets can detach and transfer to the matching trousers, moving storage with the outer-layer arrangement. The jacket also has a concealed phone pocket, stowable hood and double cuffs. Fleece lines the high collar, while the hood considers peripheral vision. Accessibility with layers, gloves and equipment becomes a different question from the small pockets of ordinary urban clothing.
The collection also introduces D3O knee protection, photoluminescent and tonal reflective details. Knees, collar and reflectivity address different situations, and no single feature should be converted into a guarantee of safety at sea. Night visibility depends on light sources, positions and conditions; sailing clothing does not replace lifesaving equipment or training.
Nautikos extends beyond the outer layer
The accompanying Trident GORE-TEX midlayer, Stormfleece, T-shirts and caps separate outer protection from moisture management and insulation nearer the body. T-shirts use S.Café technology incorporating recycled coffee grounds, while caps extend Musto’s sailing-clothing approach. A shared collection name does not give every piece the same thickness or function.

ThruDark’s official Nautikos jacket page provides size and delivery information. Its listed medium weight is 1,310 grams, indicating a design that does not minimise every detail for weight alone. Anyone considering technical clothing for daily life can compare storage needs, movement and existing layers before the all-black appearance, making the collection’s weight and complexity easier to understand.
