Valve accidentally reveals Steam Frame tutorial videos: log in by scanning the lens, hilarious wear demo included

While updating the ARM version of the Steam Client, Valve accidentally pushed all eight Steam Frame tutorial videos live at once. Players raced to grab screenshots before they were taken down, and Valve ultimately decided to just officially release a few of them, leaving the rest to spread across the internet on their own.

The eight videos cover unboxing, basic fit and eye relief spacers, the IPD adjustment dial, the login process, the wireless adapter, ergonomic accessories, controller strap installation, and headband and light shield installation. The content is solid, but the filming style has a strangely cute vibe, almost like a tutorial directed by a GLaDOS who hasn't turned evil yet.

The most straightforwardly absurd moment comes in the login video—you complete login by pointing your phone's camera at one of the headset's lenses to scan a QR code, a process that feels deliberately over-engineered. The basic fit video is even more over-the-top, demonstrating the headset worn over the mouth and even carried around like a handbag.

What's actually useful are the details on the IPD adjustment dial and ergonomic accessories. The dial features a slide-lock mechanism so your pupillary distance setting stays put once fixed; the accessories include hand straps for the controllers, an extra strap that goes over the top of the head, and an extended light shield for players with smaller nose bridges. Both the face cushion and the replaceable eye relief spacers use magnetic attachments for easy swapping, while the charging port is tucked into the battery pack on the back of the main headband.

The eight videos were compiled and leaked via the X account @Neupro5, filling in plenty of details on the design and operation—but leaving out the one thing everyone actually cares about: price. Valve says Steam Frame is slated to launch this summer, but ongoing RAM shortages continue to drive up hardware costs, and Steam Frame itself comes with 16GB of built-in RAM. Valve's recently launched Steam Machine, with its base 512GB model priced at $1,049, already hints at a trend toward steeper pricing.
