Camouflage can begin with a plant root as well as a military uniform. French label VEJA and Los Angeles-based PLEASURES transform close-up root scans into abstract patterns for Salar, a city silhouette with outdoor references. Priced at ¥38,500 in Japan and scheduled for October 28, 2026, the shoe was announced on October 23. Natural scenery becomes upper texture, beyond applying a literal forest photograph.
Root imagery becomes pattern, supported by earthy colors
Close-up root images are processed into organic shapes resembling camouflage. Irregular growth remains visible without requiring everyone to recognize the original object immediately. Compared with repetitive geometry, the pattern invites attention to local intersections and density, rather than a completely symmetrical center.
Brown, olive green and darker tones evoke soil, bark and leaves. VEJA's V remains legible at the side instead of disappearing into the overall pattern, while laces and toes return attention to the center. Campaign images bring plants, legs and footwear together as a visual narrative; the vegetation is not an accessory that accompanies actual use.
Campaign imagery brings plants, socks and shoes into one frame. The front wearing angle relates laces and toes to the lower body.
Mesh, suede and Vibram create separate surfaces
Components combining mesh and suede introduce open holes alongside more substantial edges, giving the upper more than one texture. In side views, brown overlays trace routes across the mesh, meeting a dark sole that changes the visual weight from top to bottom. With wide trousers, exposure of those overlays and the V also changes how visible the pattern becomes.
A Vibram outsole continues the original VEJA model's technical approach. The supplier name is a useful starting point for checking specifications, rather than evidence of our own traction or long-distance testing. For extended walking, compare size, space around the foot and usual surfaces. Plants in campaign images do not establish suitability for every outdoor environment.
Nature informs materials without making the shoe one substance
Announced materials include recycled polyester, organic cotton and Amazonian natural rubber across different components. This describes material choices, rather than making the complete shoe wholly natural, fully recyclable or sourced entirely from one place. Exact proportions and component uses should be checked against product specifications.
Ahead of the planned October 28 launch, follow the VEJA official store for collection and distribution updates. Sizes, arrivals and stock depend on individual sales pages. To bring Salar into an existing wardrobe, consider whether its brown-green colors connect with familiar trousers and how much patterned upper you want exposed. Nature becomes a practical choice of proportions and surfaces, beyond an outdoor-inspired slogan.
