It was supposed to be someone else's premiere night. On the evening of August 12, Green Day's film "Nimrods" got an early screening at American Legion Post 43 in Hollywood, ahead of its official theatrical release the next day. But the one who ended up stealing the spotlight was Weezer guitarist Brian Bell, standing off to the side.
LA radio station Alt 98.7 casually asked him if Weezer was working on a movie too, and Bell's answer had zero PR polish: "We already shot it. Although I'm probably not supposed to say that. But yeah, it's in post-production right now, it's gonna be great, you'll see it in 2027."
This isn't coming out of nowhere. Rivers Cuomo already teased this to the crowd on the Coachella stage last year, which was essentially the first time it went public. This time, Bell's comment nails down the timeline even further — 2027, mark your calendars.
Green Day and Weezer both debuted in 1994 and even ran the Hella Mega Tour together from 2021 to 2022. Eagle-eyed fans also spotted a Weezer poster on a trailer in the "Nimrods" trailer, which got posted to Reddit for discussion. This premiere night just added one more layer to the two bands' intertwined history.
It's still unclear whether Weezer's movie is also being produced by Live Nation Studios — the same company also dropped a new trailer that same day for another project, "Rolling Loud," featuring cameos from Travis Scott and Sexyy Red, along with an Aphex Twin T-shirt making an appearance. Details like the title, director, and runtime have not been officially announced yet.
