HHKB Professional Elite: The ¥330,000 Aluminium Keyboard’s 300-Unit Edition and 2027 Delivery

A keyboard does not need more lighting effects to move from everyday tool to collector’s object. PFU marks HHKB’s 30th anniversary with Professional Elite, combining a case machined from solid aluminium, Type-S silencing and dedicated legs around its compact layout. Japan’s price is ¥330,000 including tax, with 300 units worldwide: 250 for Japan and 50 for China. The October 22 announcement concerns made-to-order production, rather than stock available to take home immediately.

TENT Reworks Both Surface and Structure

PFU collaborated with TENT, the creative unit of Masayuki Haruta and Ryosaku Aoki, developing the 2006 tenth-anniversary HHKB Professional HG while retaining HHKB’s focus on input since 1996. The machined aluminium receives blasting and anodised colouring. Clear spacing between the case’s corners and keycaps gives the metal presence without elaborate graphics.

Official product illustrations contrast black keys with a lighter metal frame and show other colour arrangements, including White and Snow. Side views reveal thickness and connections, while overhead images return attention to the compact key area. The model name and individual number are engraved underneath. Material, finish and structure interact, but images explain proportions rather than substituting for typing sound or feel.

Type-S, Four Angles and a Deliberate Wired Specification

The keys use the Type-S silenced electrostatic capacitive, non-contact system, with a newly designed mounting structure. The company highlights how case rigidity supports stability. That is an explanation of design, not this publication proving it quieter than every other keyboard. Desk surfaces, finger pressure and surroundings affect sound, so acoustic expectations belong alongside layout habits.

Two types of dedicated leg parts, combined with different mounting directions, provide four angles and attach with the supplied hex tool. The specification is restricted to an English layout and wired connection, without a battery compartment. Sumi, White and Snow each have printed and unprinted versions. Users relying on particular shortcuts, a numeric keypad or wireless switching should check their workflow before deciding that a metal case is the most useful addition.

October’s Raffle Grants Buying Rights; Delivery Starts Next Year

Japan’s advance-purchase-rights raffle closes October 28, 2026, at 11:59pm, with results expected from November 5. Winners can buy December 1–6; general sales begin December 7 at 11am and end when allocated units are filled. These are Japanese announcement times. Not every market uses the same application form: China’s allocation goes through its designated distributor.

Advance purchases are expected to ship progressively around March 2027; general orders have an estimated four-to-five-month wait. The official PFU Professional Elite announcement details the terms. Beyond its limited number, this keyboard revisits the daily relationship between case, angle and hands. Layout, connection and waiting time are questions to answer before placing it on a working desk.
