Nintendo's Double Direct Wraps Up: Winter Port Lineup Overflows, Metroid and Kirby New Entries Close the Show

Nintendo's Double Direct Wraps Up: Winter Port Lineup Overflows, Metroid and Kirby New Entries Close the Show

Tuesday's Direct was almost entirely dedicated to Zelda, with the Ocarina of Time remaster and a Zelda-themed Switch 2 dominating the screen. Wednesday's show flipped the script—most of the roughly 40-minute presentation was packed with ports and remasters, and the actual new titles weren't revealed until the very end.

The show opened with confirmation that Monster Hunter Wilds is coming to Switch 2, launching December 4. Right after came the final chapter of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, which will hit Switch 2 alongside other platforms on April 8, 2027. Meanwhile, the prequel Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion is already available today—no need to wait for players looking to warm up.

A few practical details hidden in the port lineup

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition arrives on Switch 2 on February 25 with improved visuals and frame rate, more enemies on screen, all DLC built in, and a new hard mode. Original Switch owners won't get a free upgrade, but will be able to purchase at a discount and transfer their save data. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition launches September 29, with original Switch owners getting a free upgrade; the Switch 2 version supports mouse controls, motion aiming, and a touch interface. October 16 brings a triple bomb: Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 (with all DLC included) all land on Switch 2 the same day.

The Switch 2 version of Pikmin 4 adds voice commands, letting players give orders using the console's built-in microphone, plus a new "Dandori Academy" mode with three difficulty levels and weekly limited-time challenges where players can compare scores—launching November 12. The Switch 2 version of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 brings a new wave-survival mode called "Heroes' Vault" and a new character, Shimmer, who can predict enemies' next moves, releasing December 3. Persona 4 Revival is confirmed for Switch 2 on May 20, arriving a few months after the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC versions. A Switch 2 version of Persona 6 was also confirmed, though no further details were shared.

The real new titles, saved for last

Metroid Ravenous is a new 2D entry launching January 28, 2027, with a matching Amiibo and special edition releasing alongside it. The title nods to Samus's ability to drain energy from defeated enemies. The show closer, Kirby and the World Beyond, is a new 3D entry that gives Kirby a sword and a Zelda-style hat, while keeping his signature copy ability intact. It launches next spring—perfectly timed with Kirby's 35th anniversary.

The rest of the third-party lineup, in brief: the Switch 2 version of 007 First Light is coming this year with no set date yet; the Red Dead Redemption 2 port (originally misattributed to the Far Cry 3 series) arrives spring 2027; Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, the Street Fighter-style fighting game, hits Switch 2 October 22; It Takes Two's Switch 2 version launches October 15; and the Stellar Blade port releases November 5. Bloober Team also revealed a new horror title, Onyx: The Dark Grip, specifically noted as playable only in handheld mode—using touch controls to read the character's inner thoughts and tilting the console to dodge threats. It's set to launch as a Switch 2 exclusive next year.

The presentation did not disclose Taiwan pricing or distribution details—stay tuned to Nintendo's official channels for further announcements.
