Yasuhiro Mihara's name usually gets tied to exaggerated chunky soles and deconstructed cuts. But in・stru(mental). is his other, much quieter line — less concerned with dramatic silhouettes, more focused on fit and everyday comfort. For this UNION LA collaboration, it's this understated alter ego that got the call, not the MIHARA YASUHIRO mainline itself.
UNION LA marks its 35th anniversary this year, and tapping in・stru(mental). is a low-key choice that fits the moment. The overlap between the two is clear: one side brings quiet craftsmanship built around cut and comfort, the other brings decades of community roots and street sensibility straight from LA. Rather than leaning on one hero piece, the capsule spreads across five everyday essentials — a coach jacket, bowling shirt, T-shirt, shorts, and a cap — designed to slot straight into daily rotation instead of sitting untouched in a closet as a collector's piece.
Alongside the collection comes a limited-edition zine, co-planned by both teams and shot in Los Angeles, capturing the visual language behind the collaboration while tying LA — UNION's home turf — into the broader 35th anniversary narrative. The zine isn't just a throwaway promo booklet; it's being released in limited numbers as a collectible companion to the capsule.
The UNION x in・stru(mental). capsule drops August 7 at UNION LA, with the Japanese market following on August 8. The limited-edition zine will be available simultaneously in limited quantities at Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO flagship stores, UNION TOKYO, and UNION OSAKA. Pricing for individual pieces has not been disclosed.
