How to Wear BLACKYAK’s Purple Alpha 90: Polartec Midlayers, PrimaLoft Jackets and CORDURA Trousers
BLACKYAK assigns different layering roles to three materials in its autumn proposal. We examine the Alpha 90 hoodie’s open texture, short zip and five colours, checking the official Korean men’s product details and KRW179,000 listed price.
An autumn outdoor wardrobe need not start with the thickest jacket. On October 21, Korea’s BLACKYAK presented Thermoshield and Toughshield layering ideas, assigning base, mid and outer layers different roles according to activity levels. The purple Polartec Alpha 90 hooded top stands out. This is a seasonal product proposal from the brand: its fluffy, visibly open surface makes a different impression from denser fleece, turning the technical material itself into a styling feature.
Alpha Direct gives a midlayer more than a bulky appearance
The Thermoshield Polartec Alpha 90 hooded zip top uses Polartec Alpha Direct. BLACKYAK positions it as a midlayer, while also describing base-layer and standalone use. The official introduction emphasises lightness, softness and breathability, with the Direct structure needing no separate lining. The point of these design aims is to leave room for adjustment between different outer layers and activities, assigning each garment a role.
Front, rear and detail photographs reveal the cut more clearly than an action shot. The hood is integrated with the body, and the short chest zip does not extend to the hem, unlike a jacket that opens completely. Flatter binding finishes the cuffs and hood edge. Close-ups show fluffy fibres alongside mesh-like gaps. BLACKYAK lettering beside the zip and Polartec embroidery on the sleeve are original garment details. These photographs also help assess whether an inner layer will show through and which details remain visible when layered.

Five men’s colours, listed at KRW179,000 in Korea
The purple men’s version currently on the official Korean site has product code 1BYZTWV008PU and is listed at KRW179,000. Its material is specified as 100% polyester, with sizes 095, 100, 105, 110 and 115. Brown, Dark Charcoal, Silver Gray and Gold complete the five-colour range. Options run from a subdued dark-grey base to purple as a visual centre. The price is the listing on that Korean product page; member coupons, shipping and other markets’ prices are separate, so it should not be treated as a final purchase price in Taiwan.

The same proposal includes the Toughshield Light Insulation Jacket, filled with synthetic PrimaLoft. The brand suggests wearing it alone in transitional weather and as a midlayer with other clothing in winter. Its material arrangement differs from the Alpha Direct top, so the two should not be regarded as the same functional product simply because both offer insulation. The release discusses the filling’s design for warmth in damp conditions; it does not establish a waterproof rating for the complete jacket. Fabric, insulation and outer protection needs remain separate considerations.

CORDURA trousers balance the fluffy upper layer
Toughshield EX CORDURA Pants use CORDURA yarn with three-dimensional pattern cutting and an elasticated waist. The brand’s aim is to address outdoor abrasion while leaving room for movement. Black, brown, khaki and red-orange offer another way to distribute colour. A bright purple top can be grounded with darker trousers; a dark-grey upper layer can let red-orange trousers become the focal point. These are styling approaches drawn from the range’s colours.
To bring an outdoor midlayer into everyday dressing, compare the room around the shoulders, underarms and hem when it is worn beneath a jacket, then decide whether to show the hood and neckline. The short zip and fluffy surface already supply visual detail; a simple outer layer lets the material stand out. The proposal’s key is to separate garments’ roles. Breathability, warmth and abrasion resistance are assigned to specific pieces, allowing styling to find variation in layers and texture as well as colour.
