Hollywood Gallery Pairs Yu Itokawa’s Paintings With Biwa and Electronic Sound for Roppongi Art Night

Hollywood Gallery offers a clearly timed stop for visitors planning Roppongi Art Night 2026. A special reception on October 31, from 5pm to 10pm, brings Yu Itokawa’s EMERGE exhibition together with a biwa-and-electronic-music performance by miwatanaka. This is neither a continuous evening music programme nor an extension of the festival’s overnight hours inside the gallery. The key performance window is 7–7:20pm.

Start with EMERGE before the music arrives

EMERGE opened October 21 and continues through November 15. October 31 is its Art Night reception, not the exhibition’s first opening. The organiser identifies animals and plants as central motifs in Itokawa’s work, which will be displayed and available for sale. A supplied image shows birds, flowers, foliage and dense interlacing lines, with warm colours and dark outlines creating a decorative composition. This observation concerns the official artwork image, not a reporting visit to the installation.

Visitors unfamiliar with the artist might begin with the image’s rhythm: how foliage fills the space and how birds interrupt its intricate composition. Placing painting beside live sound suggests a visit that involves eyes and ears, without reducing the art to a stage backdrop. Itokawa is scheduled to arrive at 6:30pm. That is a planned appearance, not a guarantee of meeting the artist throughout the evening.

A 20-minute meeting of biwa and electronic music

Miwatanaka’s set is scheduled for 7–7:20pm, combining biwa with electronic music. The contrasting textures offer another way to experience the space beyond painting. The official publicity photograph shows the performer holding a synthesizer; it is not documentation of this future performance. The repertoire, equipment and exact form of the set remain matters for the event, rather than details that can be inferred from one promotional image.

For visitors moving between several Art Night locations, twenty minutes is a useful planning unit. Arriving just before the 10pm finish would miss the performance. Those mainly interested in painting can distinguish the reception from the exhibition’s regular dates. The gallery is within a commercial beauty setting, and Hollywood products will also be sold that evening, so the event should not be described as wholly separate from retail.

Distinguish this reception from the wider Art Night

The organiser also plans complimentary Jurakudai sake from Kyoto’s Sasaki Shuzo, with a brewery representative expected to serve it. Complimentary refers to the announced sake offering; it does not make artworks, merchandise or unannounced services free, nor guarantee unlimited quantities. Visitors can decide whether to drink, while the central encounter remains painting, music and an evening gallery visit.

Hollywood Gallery is beside Beauty Cellar on the third floor of Hollywood Beauty Plaza, 6-4-1 Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo. This reception finishes at 10pm on October 31 even though the wider Roppongi Art Night runs into the early hours of November 1. All times are local to Japan. Check current gallery and festival notices before leaving, keeping the planned 6:30pm artist arrival, 7pm performance and 10pm finish separate in your itinerary.
