After being announced last year, Sony's desktop speaker finally has a confirmed release date. The Pulse Elevate will start shipping on November 12 at $220, with preorders opening September 1 via PlayStation Direct and other retailers. It'll come in White and Midnight Black, continuing PlayStation's familiar color scheme for accessories.
The standout feature here is the planar magnetic drivers. Sony claims this driver design can reproduce sound "with near-perfect accuracy" across the entire audible spectrum, letting players hear "the sound as the developers intended" — that's the official claim, at least; how it actually sounds will need to be verified once it's out. The speaker also comes with a subwoofer and a microphone with background noise suppression, plus support for Tempest 3D AudioTech spatial audio and low-latency PlayStation Link connectivity.
As for connectivity, the Pulse Elevate can connect to a PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC, or Mac via the PlayStation Link USB-C adapter, and it can also double as a regular Bluetooth speaker with multipoint pairing support. Users can adjust audio presets and other settings on PS5 or PC, and the speaker itself can be tilted to adjust the listening angle.
Sony has yet to release full technical specs or battery life details, only stating that a full charge provides "several hours" of audio playback.
