New Balance 990v7 Launches in Japan November 6: The ¥49,500 Grey Shoe and Its October 26 Member Raffle
U990GR7 combines pig suede, mesh and revised FuelCell. Japan’s official schedule separates applications, shipping and collection, while Harajuku begins selling on November 6.
New Balance’s 990 reaches its seventh generation with familiar grey intact, but there is more to examine than an incremented number. The Made in USA 990v7, U990GR7, is scheduled to arrive in Japan on November 6, 2026, for ¥49,500 including tax. The Japanese raffle opens October 26 at 7pm and closes October 30 at 1pm for myNB members at Bronze level or above. These are Japanese-market arrangements: the shoe, eligibility and each store’s collection process need separate attention.
Grey tones and seams distinguish the layered overlays.
Grey Is a Combination of Suede and Mesh
Developed around “Memories from the Future,” the 990v7 reorganises familiar 990 lines. Pig suede and mesh create different densities, while synthetic-suede overlays trace supporting paths across the upper. From the side, shades of grey, a cream-coloured midsole and cooler heel sections separate upper and lower areas. The panels and seams remain legible without bright colours.
An overhead view reveals the relationship between toe, laces and collar; the rear highlights heel width and the midsole’s layers. These angles help compare how trouser hems meet the shoe. Wide trousers may obscure more overlays, while a shorter hem exposes the collar and lacing. Grey may fit readily into a wardrobe, but different trouser lengths will not produce an identical outline.

Revised FuelCell Does Not Make Heritage a Comfort Guarantee
The brand describes a softer adjustment to the FuelCell direction introduced in the 990v6, emphasising cushioning and rebound. This is its account of materials and design, rather than a wear test by this publication or a promise of identical comfort for every foot. Existing v6 wearers can reconsider toe room, instep coverage and walking balance rather than automatically ordering their previous size.
The 990 began as a road-running shoe in 1982, connecting American production with its signature grey over decades. The seventh generation leaves room for new materials and lines within that identity. History provides context, but fit, socks and intended use still matter. The official exploded product image also makes clear that upper, insole and outsole are separate components, rather than one piece of a single material.

A Raffle Is Not Immediate Stock, and Harajuku Has Different Rules
The official raffle lists D width in 22.5–29.0cm and 30.0cm, with one application per person. Successful online orders begin shipping November 6, while store collection starts that day. New Balance Harajuku does not participate in this raffle and instead begins sales November 6. Follow the chosen store and notification rather than equating purchase eligibility with receiving the shoes today.
The official New Balance Japan raffle announcement sets out membership, application and collection details; other markets’ prices require separate checks. Start with the grey materials and the shoe’s proportions, then connect them to the dates and buying process. That makes the 990v7 a more practical consideration than its name alone.
