Range Rover Sport Electric Opens Presale in Taiwan, Puts All-Terrain Chops to the Test at Marble Quarry

Choosing Italy's Carrara marble quarry for final testing is the most intriguing part of this whole story. The all-new Range Rover Sport Electric tackled the summit of Gioia Peak, where terrain shifts between polished marble and thick layers of fine dust, with gradients reaching up to 45 degrees—hardly your typical showcase venue for a performance SUV that just swapped in a fully electric powertrain. This was a no-excuses proving ground.

This marks the Range Rover Sport's first foray into full electrification, and the brand is using it to mark more than 20 years of the model line's development. The dual electric motors deliver a combined output of 260kW, with max power at 550PS and peak torque hitting 850Nm—the highest figures ever recorded for the Range Rover Sport lineup. With Dynamic Launch Mode engaged, 0-100km/h takes as little as 4.5 seconds, with the brand claiming performance on par with the P540 V8-powered Range Rover Sport.

Chassis tuning is what sets this apart from other electric Range Rover models. Compared to the Range Rover Sport PHEV, body structure rigidity increases by 61%, while the center of gravity drops by 73mm. It's paired with the Adaptive Dynamics 2 active dynamics control system, which monitors 100 vehicle dynamic parameters 500 times per second, plus an Electronic Active Roll Control system capable of applying up to 1,400Nm of force independently on the front and rear axles. The four-wheel steering system let the vehicle navigate the quarry's tight hairpin turns in continuous succession without needing to reverse—a specific scenario the brand highlighted to demonstrate handling agility.

Matt Becker, Range Rover's Vehicle Engineering Director, said: "The stiffer body structure and lower center of gravity, combined with precise torque control and advanced chassis technology, give the vehicle sharper responses, greater agility, and more driving confidence. It delivers a tighter, more composed, and quicker driving experience than you'd expect, without sacrificing the serene comfort, luxury feel, and all-round capability that Range Rover is known for."

Range and charging figures also made it onto this spec sheet. The vehicle packs a 118.5kWh lithium-ion battery pack, delivering up to 609km of WLTP range. With the 800V high-voltage architecture, a 10-minute charge can add up to 220km of range, while charging from 10% to 80% takes about 22 minutes. All-terrain capability shows up in specs like a maximum wading depth of 900mm and the ability to tackle gradients up to 45 degrees—directly reflecting the real-world terrain conditions faced during quarry testing.

The exterior's distinct look comes from a grille and aluminum alloy wheels specially optimized for aerodynamics, which the brand says can add up to roughly 16km of extra range during highway driving. Beyond the powertrain, the engineering team also crafted a signature sound profile for the vehicle, with distinct acoustic characteristics across different driving modes.

The all-new Range Rover Sport Electric is now open for presale in Taiwan, available in Dynamic SE and Autobiography trims, starting at NT$4.68 million (inclusive of the NT$210,000 commodity tax reduction for electric vehicles).
