SOUTH2 WEST8 × TAION adds a down jacket that becomes a shoulder bag
Released October 16, the second collaboration turns patterns into quilting and introduces a Transform Jacket with a built-in strap and a usable bag configuration.
SOUTH2 WEST8 and Japanese inner-down specialist TAION released their second collaboration through NEPENTHES stores and its online shop at 11.30am Japan time on October 16, 2026. The three styles are the Inner Down Jacket, Inner Down Vest and new Transform Jacket, priced in Japan at ¥24,200, ¥19,800 and ¥30,800 respectively. The launch has passed; the useful comparison now is how their construction addresses wearing and carrying.
TAION began in 2016 with inner down at its core. SOUTH2 WEST8 contributes its own pattern and a roomier silhouette. The Inner Down Jacket and Vest create an original geometric motif through quilting rather than a large printed block. Published photographs show reddish-brown, green and black versions. Lines become dimensional as they follow the filling, revealing a pattern that also divides the garment’s surface.

Jacket and vest leave different room for layers
The Inner Down Jacket combines long sleeves and a round neckline with a simple front. The Vest leaves sleeves exposed, allowing shirts or knitwear to become part of the outfit. Both resize the inner-down idea into a roomier shape that can also work as an outer layer. Whether either fits under an existing coat still depends on shoulders, underarms and front clearance. The word Inner does not establish compatibility with every coat.
Small storage pouches in the images are different from the Transform Jacket’s shoulder-bag configuration. A pouch packs a garment away; it does not establish extra carrying capacity or a load rating. Transform has a built-in shoulder strap, and the jacket itself forms the bag body. Keeping these images distinct avoids confusing ordinary packable clothing with a design that genuinely changes into a bag.

Transform changes function, not only size
Transform uses a stand collar and comparatively straight quilting. Product photographs show light and black jackets alongside their shoulder-bag forms. A large Circle Horn motif appears on the bag face, moving the garment’s identity to the front after conversion. That offers another way to carry a temporarily unworn jacket, but the announcement supplies no bag capacity or weight limit. It cannot be assumed to replace every everyday backpack.

The checked Ice Grey Transform product page specifies 100% nylon shell and lining, with 95% down and 5% feather filling. Those details apply to this style and should not automatically be transferred to the other patterned pieces. Size M measures 75cm long and 65cm across the chest laid flat, reinforcing the value of garment measurements. No minimum operating temperature is provided, and a down percentage cannot itself be converted into a warmth rating.
Choose clothing or an additional carrying mode
For exposed sleeves and pattern, the vest and round-neck jacket can be assessed against an existing wardrobe. For movement between indoors and outdoors, Transform offers the distinct possibility of turning clothing into a bag.
