Naim Mu-so Utopia fits 15 drivers into a one-metre system: 720W, Dolby Atmos and room placement

Choosing an all-in-one sound system often begins with not wanting a room full of equipment. Naim's Mu-so Utopia, announced in October, combines streaming, amplification and 15 speaker drivers inside one black rectangular enclosure, with a stated total amplification output of 720W and Dolby Atmos support. It is the first Naim product to carry the Utopia name, combining the British company's electronics with Focal acoustic technology. Understanding the design means considering how it will inhabit a living room as well as reading its specifications.

How are 15 drivers arranged in a one-metre enclosure?

Official dimensions are 100 cm wide, 11.8 cm high and 29.5 cm deep, with a weight of 14.1 kg. The front contains three woofers, two midranges and two tweeters; two full-range drivers sit on each side, with another four on top, making 15 in total. The front midranges use W cones with an M-shaped profile, while the tweeters feature PRISM technology. Class AB amplification handles the tweeters, with Class D elsewhere. The 720W figure is total output, not another way of stating everyday electricity consumption.

Product photographs show black anodised aluminium with a red Utopia accent and a large rotary volume control on top. Despite its low height, a metre of width and almost 30 cm of depth call for measuring the furniture. Because drivers also fire from the sides and top, fitting the front view into a tight shelf opening is not the only consideration.

Dolby Atmos and ADAPT depend on the room relationship

Mu-so Utopia offers Dolby Movie and Dolby Music modes alongside Sphere Music, Movie, Gaming and Podcast, with a night mode available across listening modes. Different content receives different processing; that does not turn every ordinary stereo recording into native Dolby Atmos. TV connections include HDMI eARC with CEC and an optical input. The RCA pair is a subwoofer output, not an analogue input for a turntable.

ADAPT operates through the Focal & Naim app. Users enter distances between the system, walls, ceiling and listening area before the system adjusts the sound. This is a setup based on supplied room information, not a claim that plugging it in automatically measures the whole space. An integrated unit offers convenience for rented homes or anyone avoiding multiple speakers. Whether its soundstage meets expectations still requires listening in the intended room or a demonstration; this publication has not conducted a listening test.

Streaming, control and pricing

Support includes AirPlay, Google Cast, Bluetooth, Spotify Connect, TIDAL and Qobuz, with Wi-Fi 6 and wired networking. The Focal & Naim app controls playback and settings and can integrate compatible devices for multiroom listening. High-resolution file support needs reading by format: the official specification lists WAV up to 32-bit/384kHz, while FLAC and AIFF reach 24-bit/384kHz. The highest number should not be applied to every format or connection.

European reference prices reported in October are EUR 5,000 and GBP 4,499 in the UK. Supply, tax treatment and local pricing need checking with retailers; this is not a promise of a single worldwide price or immediate availability today. The official Naim Mu-so Utopia product page provides full specifications and a listening-session entry point. Rather than treating it only as a higher-spec soundbar, list how much of its use will be music, film or gaming, and how much space the unit can occupy. Those questions determine whether integration offers practical value.
