BEAMS revives its orange shoulder shopping bag with the 1986 globe logo

Retired five years ago, the bag returns for BEAMS’ 50th anniversary with plant-derived plastic. Store, shipping and platform rules still determine distribution.

BEAMS revives its orange shoulder shopping bag with the 1986 globe logo

BEAMS has brought back its orange shoulder shopping bag in limited quantities for its 50th anniversary. Discontinued in 2021, the packaging has accompanied eligible purchases since 9 October 2026. This is not a promotion starting today or a newly priced standalone bag. The revival pairs the 1986 globe logo with updated material, turning shopping packaging once again into an object that can travel beyond the journey home.

How a drawcord carried a shopping bag into street style

The original shoulder bag appeared in 1986, BEAMS’ tenth anniversary. A drawcord closes the opening and allows cross-body carrying, helping it move from transporting purchases into commuting to school and everyday outings. Orange plastic and a black globe create a recognizable combination. Without a complicated construction, the object can become part of an outfit simply by being carried.

Orange plastic joins fabrics and footwear in another everyday image.

The revival retains the imagery from the globe logo’s first appearance. Published campaign photographs place it on a shoulder, beside a seat, on a shelf and inside a suitcase rather than only on a plain surface. Those settings communicate its intended second life after shopping. Users can decide where packaging ends and an everyday possession begins.

Plant-derived content does not establish biodegradability

BEAMS says the biomass plastic uses more than 80% plant-derived raw material, sourced from waste molasses associated with corn processing. This describes material origins; it does not establish decomposition in nature or identical recycling arrangements everywhere. The brand encourages repeated, long-term use. Actual reuse and disposal still depend on the owner and local systems.

The revival therefore does more than reproduce an old bag unchanged. Its 2021 discontinuation accompanied efforts to reduce disposable plastic materials. Five years later, limited distribution and material changes return to that question from another direction. Readers can consider whether they will keep using it rather than equate the word biomass with an absence of environmental impact.

Stores and online shopping follow different rules

Distribution began on 9 October for customers buying products, with limited quantities available while supplies last. BEAMS specifically says eligible official online orders are determined by parcels shipped during the relevant period, not simply the order date. Store and online procedures also differ. A campaign page therefore does not guarantee a bag at every store, with every purchase or on any chosen day.

Other platforms have separate windows. The official announcement lists Rakuten Fashion’s BEAMS FESTA period from 10am on 23 October through 26 October, while &mall is scheduled to begin on 2 December. Their rules should not be transferred between platforms. Consult the official BEAMS revival announcement for channels and conditions, then consider whether this design object has a continuing role in your everyday life.
