IM MEN turns a takeaway coffee cup into leather: TO GO launches in Japan on November 1

IM MEN has turned the takeaway coffee cup, an object routinely held in one hand, into a small leather accessory that can be worn. TO GO is scheduled to launch in Japan on November 1, 2026, priced at JPY 36,300 in white, beige and black. Its appeal lies in taking the recognisable outlines of a cup, lid and sleeve out of a food setting and making them into a small container that feels both familiar and newly open to interpretation.

Where does TO GO's cup shape come from?

The brand identifies the takeaway coffee cup as its inspiration, translating a shape associated with paper and disposable use into leather. TO GO also appeared in the introduction to IM MEN's Autumn/Winter 2026/27 collection, FORMLESS FORM, presented on January 22, 2026, at the Collège des Bernardins in Paris. The current announcement confirms its Japanese retail release; the design was not first revealed in October.

Product photographs show a projecting, lid-like rim, metal fittings for the strap and an additional layer of leather around the body that recalls a cup sleeve. Instead of printing a coffee cup as a flat graphic, the design makes its three-dimensional outline the object itself. Against a white outfit, the white version brings edges and shadows into focus; beige worn over dark clothing makes the complete cup silhouette easier to read.

A small container shaped around styling

TO GO measures 10.2 cm wide, 11.8 cm high and 8.6 cm deep, and can be carried around the neck or over a shoulder. Campaign photographs show it held in a hand, suspended at the front and worn cross-body at the side. Unlike a flat pouch, the cup shape concentrates its volume into an upright profile. It is worth considering how that profile sits beside an outerwear hem and the side of the body, as well as looking at its front.

The design is best understood through small-item storage and styling. The brand describes it as a container for small belongings, rather than a coffee cup intended to hold hot drinks. Resembling a drinks vessel does not establish the same function. The useful questions are whether the belongings you want to carry fit inside, and whether its opening and access suit your habits, rather than estimating capacity from photographs alone.

Where will it be sold on November 1?

Planned Japanese stockists are IM MEN Aoyama, ISSEY MIYAKE GINZA / 442, ISSEY MIYAKE Kyoto, ISSEY MIYAKE Semba, IM MEN Hankyu Men's Osaka and the official online store. All three colours are announced at JPY 36,300; actual arrivals and availability should be checked with each retailer. The brand's FORMLESS FORM collection introduction also places the accessory within the season's wider exploration of material and form.

TO GO makes everyday gestures into design cues: holding a cup, lifting a container and taking small belongings away are visual ideas that need little explanation. Replacing paper with leather brings the takeaway cup, usually a background object discarded after use, into the foreground of an outfit. Its identity comes from the contrast between familiar proportions and a changed material, making it an accessory to consider for anyone who enjoys shifting an entire look through one small detail.
