The next bilingual issue of NEPENTHES in print puts the people wearing clothes at its centre. PORTRAITS IN STYLE is scheduled for October 31, 2026, bringing together 83 people across seven cities in the publication’s third street-snapshot feature. Those figures describe people and locations, rather than a ranking of brands or fashionable cities. The interest lies in how different lives turn clothing into something personal.
The seven locations are Tokyo, Osaka, Hakata, Sapporo, New York, Los Angeles and London, photographed by local photographers. The geographical range does not impose one universal formula for dressing. The published previews retain street corners, interiors and architectural backgrounds, allowing silhouettes to remain connected to everyday surroundings rather than reducing an outfit to a frontal product view.
A New York street-corner portrait keeps the outfit connected to its urban setting.
Why give street photographs a printed home?
A snapshot can communicate a silhouette immediately; a portrait gives the eye reasons to stay. In the previews, wide trousers, layered shirts, scarves and hats do not all rely on the same colour strategy. Posture and the meeting of trouser hems and shoes also change an outfit’s apparent weight. Adjacent printed pages make those differences available for repeated comparison, outside the constant refresh of a social feed.
A preview spread places several portraits together to compare trousers, shirts and layering.
A closing section, THE EPILOGUE TO OUR STYLE JOURNEY, interviews four stylists, connecting the portraits with professional perspectives on dressing. That creates another route into the book: beyond identifying a label, readers can consider how choices accumulate and how work and daily life shape a wardrobe. The complete interviews belong to the publication itself; the public previews cannot stand in for reading the whole issue.
Dates and location for the Daikanyama Tsutaya fair
A NEPENTHES fair accompanies the issue at Daikanyama Tsutaya Books in Tokyo from October 31 to November 13. It takes place at Magazine Street on the first floor of Building 2. Alongside the new issue, the selection includes back issues and related accessories, giving visitors an opportunity to browse before choosing. The announcement does not state the new issue’s price or page count, so figures from another issue should not be substituted.
On Saturday, November 7, photographer Akira Yamada will hold a portrait session from noon to 4pm, Japan time. Participation is limited to readers purchasing NEPENTHES in print that day, who must apply at the Art, Photography and Fashion counter on Building 2’s first floor. Arriving alone does not secure a place. Photographs may appear on NEPENTHES or Tsutaya’s official websites or social channels, a use participants should understand beforehand.
Reading outfits on your own terms
For practical inspiration, start with climates and clothing layers close to your own routine, then compare how people in the seven cities handle similar pieces. The release, fair and photography session have separate schedules: October 31, October 31–November 13, and the specified November 7 hours respectively. Check the official NEPENTHES issue and event announcement for current arrangements before travelling; preview images are not a guarantee of stock.
